Too many people don't make a will before they pass away and that can leave their loved ones in dire financial situations.
We made it easy and simple to create a will for the 150.000 members of Akademikerpension with a custom software solution. The users are guided through the process and all the questions are explained. In the end they have a valid legal document that just needs to be registered with a notary.
Akademikerpension approached us with a significant issue impacting their members— the absence of a will before the passing of a loved one. The repercussions of this situation could be dire, with some individuals potentially losing their homes due to financial constraints. A member survey revealed that a majority had not created a will, due to four factors; a lack of understanding of its significance, complex legal language, the cost involved and the fact that it forces you to think about your own mortality. 80% of the members wanted an easy way to create a will.
The challenge we faced was to devise a solution that simplified this process, making it intuitive and easily accessible for Akademikerpension members. The goal was to alleviate the stress and confusion surrounding will creation, and provide a straightforward, user-friendly approach to this crucial aspect of life planning. We also had to come up with a solution that would work in 90% of the cases.
The main design challenge was to simplify the process as much as possible and find a good way to guide the user and explain the difficult legal terms. Here we settled on an avatar that explains the concepts and why certain information is needed.
We mapped out all the different parameters and the total decision tree to come up with an architecture for a solution that could cover the most common situations. The solution was then developed in iterative design sprints.
During the initial phase, our design team worked closely with the product owner at Akademikerpension, ensuring alignment with their brand identity and user expectations. With the design approved, we proceeded to the development phase.The core functionality was developed with agile sprints in less than two months. Throughout the development process, legal advisors were consulted to ensure compliance with relevant regulations guaranteeing the validity and legality of the generated documents.
The platform's functionality was tested focusing on usability, security, and compatibility across devices and browsers.
