Transforming a prison into a lively green district

Case summary

To tell a new story about a place most Danes already know. The Olsen Banden movies made Vridsløselille the most famous prison in Denmark, and A. Enggaard, the developer turning the 160-year-old prison into a new district, wanted to build on that history. The site shares the vision for Vridsløse and invites the community in while the district takes shape.
They can see what's happening in the area and take part. The Vridsløse site we built for A. Enggaard presents the different actors and events in the former prison, and a map feature makes the area easy to navigate. Visitors can also book locations in Vridsløse for their own events. The site works as a digital gate that opens the old prison up to the world.
Because the project keeps moving. A. Enggaard is redeveloping Vridsløselille over the coming years, so the site had to be easy to maintain and easy to change as the district evolves. Webflow lets new features and subpages be added continuously as the work on the former prison progresses, and that is exactly how the site has been growing since it went live.
We started with structure and content. Together with A. Enggaard, we defined what the Vridsløse site should contain and how it should be organized. We then designed the main mockups from lo-fi wireframes and set up a design system that new pages can build on as the district grows.
Over the coming years, the 160-year-old Vridsløselille State Prison will be turned into an attractive place to live and a district with sustainable solutions, community, urban nature and culture.
We have created a site to show the redevelopment and the vision for the new Vridsløse district.
The result is a clean and modern website that shows how Vridsløse is changing. Through the site, it is possible to find information about the different actors and events taking place in the area. A map feature makes it easy to navigate the area and you can book the different locations for your own events. With the site, A. Enggaard now has a digital gate that can open up the former prison to the world.
The popular Olsen Banden movies made Vridsløselille the most famous prison in Denmark. Later the prison became known worldwide when 12 prisoners escaped after a loader smashed into the prison wall. For A. Enggaard, the development company behind the project, it was important to build on the history and tell a new story about Vridsløse. The aim was to share the vision and invite the community in.
They wanted to create a website where interested parties, and people from outside, could add information and get to know the area through unique experiences in culture, gastronomy and shopping.
In collaboration with A. Enggaard, we defined the new site's structure and content. We designed the main mockups using the lo-fi wireframes, and defined the design system. Taking into consideration that the site needed to be easy to maintain and easy to change as the project evolved, we made the site in Webflow.
New features and subpages are being added continuously as the redevelopment progresses.
